Polly Perks is a young woman with a secret: she's actually a man. She's been living as a man for years, ever since she ran away from home to join the army. She's good at it, too. She's strong, brave, and smart. She's also a bit of a troublemaker.
When her regiment is sent to fight the invading French, Polly is excited to finally see some action. But war is not what she expected. It's brutal, bloody, and terrifying. Polly sees her friends die, and she's forced to kill for the first time. But she also discovers her own courage and strength.
Monstrous Regiment is a funny, heartwarming, and thought-provoking novel about war, gender, and identity. It's a must-read for fans of Terry Pratchett and anyone who enjoys a good story.
