Love in the House of War: A Heart-Wrenching Tale of Resilience and the Power of Human Connection
In the war-ravaged city of Beirut, where the deafening roar of artillery fire has become a haunting symphony of destruction, two families struggle to survive amidst the chaos and despair. Love in the House of War, a powerful and moving novel by award-winning author Randa Jarrar, delves into the depths of human resilience and the indomitable spirit of those who refuse to succumb to the horrors of war.
The novel opens in the midst of the Lebanese Civil War, which tore the country apart for over 15 years. Against this backdrop of violence and devastation, we are introduced to two families: the Shiite Muslim Al-Khalifa family and the Christian Maronite Al-Amin family. Despite their different religious beliefs, the two families have always lived in relative harmony. But as the war escalates, their peaceful coexistence is shattered, and they are forced to navigate the treacherous path of survival in a divided city.
