Bitten: My Unexpected Love Affair With Florida
I never thought I'd fall in love with Florida. In fact, I used to make fun of people who did. I'm a New Yorker, through and through. I love the hustle and bustle of the city, the culture, the food. Florida, to me, was just a place where old people went to retire. It was hot, humid, and boring.

But then I got a job offer in Miami. I hesitated at first, but eventually I decided to take it. I figured I'd give it a year and see how I liked it. If I didn't like it, I could always move back to New York.
I arrived in Miami on a hot summer day. The air was thick and humid, and I immediately started sweating. I got into a cab and headed to my new apartment. As I drove through the city, I was surprised by how much I liked it. The streets were clean and the buildings were modern. There were palm trees everywhere, and the air was filled with the sound of birds singing. It was a beautiful city.
I got to my apartment and unpacked my belongings. I was exhausted, but I decided to go for a walk to explore my new neighborhood. I walked down the street and came to a park. I sat down on a bench and looked around. The park was filled with people of all ages and races. There were children playing, old people sitting on benches, and young people walking their dogs. I felt a sense of peace and belonging that I hadn't felt in a long time.
I continued to walk around the neighborhood and I started to meet people. I met my neighbors, who were a friendly couple from Cuba. I met the owner of the local coffee shop, who was a kind and gentle man. I met a group of people who were playing volleyball in the park. I started to feel like I was part of a community.
The more time I spent in Miami, the more I started to love it. I loved the weather, the culture, and the people. I started to realize that Florida wasn't just a place where old people went to retire. It was a vibrant and exciting state with a lot to offer. I started to feel like I was finally home.
One day, I was walking on the beach when I saw a man sitting on a bench. He was reading a book and he looked very peaceful. I sat down next to him and we started talking. We talked about our lives, our dreams, and our hopes. I felt a connection with him that I hadn't felt with anyone in a long time.
We started dating and soon we were in love. He was the kindest, most loving man I had ever met. He made me laugh, he made me feel safe, and he made me feel like I was the only woman in the world. We got married a year later and we've been together ever since.
I never thought I'd find love in Florida. But I did. I found love, I found a home, and I found myself. Florida is a magical place, and I'm so grateful that I get to call it my home.
