William Theodore "Bill" Walton III was born on November 5, 1952, in La Mesa, California. From a young age, Walton displayed an exceptional talent for basketball. He excelled at Helix High School, leading his team to two consecutive California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) titles.

Walton's collegiate career at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) was equally remarkable. Under legendary coach John Wooden, he won two consecutive NCAA championships in 1972 and 1973. Walton was named the NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player both years and was a consensus All-American.

Walton's professional basketball career started with the Portland Trail Blazers in 1974. Walton also helped the Celtics win their 16th NBA championship in 1986, becoming one of the few players to win NBA titles with two different teams.
